"Silent Night" pattern is one of 10 ornament designs in Level 1 of the BCS Learning Series. In this pattern you learn the Rhodes Stitch. LEVEL 1 - #03 “RHODES STITCH"
The Full Rhodes Stitch, in the corners of this pattern, is a staple of counted needlework. Originating from traditional canvaswork and needlepoint embroidery, it has a storied history dating back centuries. Named after needlework designer Mary Rhodes, this stitch has evolved to become a cherished technique among enthusiasts.
Technically, the Full Rhodes Stitch consists of straight stitches arranged in a diamond or square pattern, creating a textured motif that adds depth to the fabric. Its geometric nature allows for customization in size and density, making it adaptable to various projects. The stitches intersect and overlap to create a textured motif that adds depth and visual interest to the fabric in counted needlework.
In this pattern you will also learn a variation of the Full Rhodes, called Partial Rhodes which is practiced in the frame around the motif in center.
What makes the Rhodes Stitch truly exceptional is its versatility. It can serve as a standalone motif or be integrated seamlessly into larger designs as borders, fillings, or accents.
