We were to dress up in a sheet, run around the neighbourhood with my friends, say “Trick or Treat” at various doors, for which I was given candy. I was stunned. What a wonderful childhood fantasy! I had never heard of such a thing before and became an instant fan of ‘trick or treating’. Those were the days when householders didn’t dress up, but handed out handfuls of great candies, Kraft caramels, chips and apples. I learned the ropes quickly! The man on the corner could be counted on for 2 chocolate bars, and the sweet lady around the corner always gave us hot chocolate at the end of the evening. I shivered with anticipation of those dark Halloween evenings when I was allowed out with my friends. What fun to roam the streets lit only by lamplight. Things have changed a bit since then, but the magic of Halloween has only increased. Enjoy stitching this Trick or Treat sampler on Dirty Linen with all the beautiful overdyes in fall colours, as well as some cute Halloween charms! There are some extra specialty stitches, some drawn thread, a little Hardanger at the bottom of the sampler with a Spider Web Filling Stitch.. including a small spider charm waiting to pounce!
