There are three West Coast Native Art based designs in Victoria. Totem poles are monumental sculptures primarily carved from large Cedar trees, and painted to represent various clans and groups on the West Coast. These two totem poles are true to life representations of two of the totem poles, one attributed to the Haida and the other to the Kwaikutl First Nations. The mask is a faithful rendition of the Haida ceremonial Sun mask, which was bought by collectors from the States from the Haida Indian Nation before the turn of the century, and is now on display in the Museum of Natural History in New York. These masks were often used in ceremonies and for tribal celebrations.

Canadian Cross Stitch - Canadian Cross Stitch Souvenir Leaflets
I created Canadian Cross Stitch souvenir charts when I first learned to design needlework. These designs became very popular with tourists who visited Victoria. A number of them are still available as Downloadable PDF patterns. You can buy your own linen and DMC Floss, according to the materials list included in each of the designs. - Thea
