Descripción

Victoria, B.C. Canada is known as the City of Gardens, and this is the theme of this leaflet of Souvenir Floral Designs. The world famous 'Sunken' garden in Butchart Gardens of Victoria, B.C., are depicted. There are some other patterns in the same booklet. Namely the "Mini Butchart Gardens" in an oval shape. The B.C. Dogwood pattern and the Lamp Post of Victoria pattern are also included in this leaflet.

Four full patterns include:

1. Butchart Gardens - Sunken Garden - This design features a wide view of the Sunken Garden in Butchart Gardens of Victoria. This is just one of a number of gardens to view when you visit! The Rose Garden, the Japanese Gardens, the Italian Garden, are some of the other gardens to view while visiting Butchart Gardens.

History:  Robert Butchart and his wife Jennie moved to Vancouver Island in 1904. They settled in a beautiful home they called "Benvenuto" on Tod Inlet, which was built very close to a limestone quarry. After a few years, Jennie slowly  transformed the exhausted limestone quarry into the renowned Sunken Gardens. With a former quarry as a canvas, Jennie Butchart spent money and time transforming this space into a beautiful garden haven, overflowing with lush greens and colourful blooms. By 1921. Jennie commissioned Isaburo Kishida to create additional Japanese gardens. This led to the development of various further garden areas and styles on their large estate, replacing earlier tennis courts with an Italian garden in 1926 and a large rose garden in 1929.  With over a million visitors per year, Butchart Gardens is an internationally-known attraction that spans over 55 acres filled with 900 bedding plant varieties, and countless imported bushes, trees, and perennials, many of which are heirloom species. Descendants of the Butchart family continue to own and operate it as a private company to this day.

2. Mini Butchart Gardens - This design features a smaller oval view of the Sunken Garden in Butchart Gardens of Victoria. It doesn’t take as long to stitch as the large version, and it’s fun to frame in an oval mat.

3. B.C. Dogwood - The B.C. or Pacific Dogwood tree grows mainly on the southern coast of B.C. and on almost all of Vancouver Island south of Port Hardy. This is a protected species, because it is susceptible to the dogwood leaf blotch, so legislation protects the tree from being cut down. The Pacific Dogwood blossom is the floral emblem of British Columbia!

4. Lamp Post - All through the city, you will find the distinctive lamp posts with 5 globes decorated with gigantic moss flower baskets. These posts greet visitors and citizens alike from April until October with their beautiful hanging baskets.

Canadian Cross Stitch - Canadian Cross Stitch Souvenir Leaflets

I created Canadian Cross Stitch souvenir charts when I first learned to design cross stitch. These designs became very popular with tourists who visited Victoria. Materials lists for each pattern are included. - Thea
